Dewdney Avenue Revitalization Project: Corridor to Mainstreet

Regina’s Warehouse Business Improvement District is pleased with the details of the design plan for the Dewdney Avenue Revitalization project. Announced in 2018 as a tri-party funding initiative, this project will help transform our historic Dewdney Avenue from a basic traffic corridor to an attractive mainstreet for the city.

From the Warehouse District perspective, the transformation of Dewdney from a corridor to a mainstreet will make the district safer and much more walkable.  While traffic flow is important, the focus is on revitalizing Dewdney as a destination where more people will spend time and money, not as a primary commuter traffic corridor.

To meet goals set out in the Official Community Plan to increase residential density, the Warehouse District anticipates that the City of Regina will upsize underground infrastructure during this project.

We understand fully that this transition and construction phase may present challenges for existing businesses. The warehouse District team will be offering support services for those directly impacted and seeks additional support for businesses during construction by advocating for:

- parking on The Yards during construction

- providing pedestrian safety during construction

- communication strategies to keep members and the general public informed

- interim use funding for the Yards

This is an important project for the Warehouse District and greater downtown, we look forward to continued close interaction with the city as the project moves forward.
