COVID-19 Statement from the Executive Director
Well. Here we are.
In the uncharted territory of a global pandemic. We’re all trying to deal with the fact that we can’t just go about our daily lives with business as usual. It’s discomforting. Reginans are part of a global community that has never dealt with anything like this before and it’s going to be this way for weeks, or months.
The most important thing we can do, social distancing, is at its core very simple. But it’s also a nightmare scenario for many of the businesses in the Warehouse District (and our city in general). Restaurants, breweries, fitness facilities, etc.—all are going to suffer because social distancing means exactly that, keeping your distance from others and not gathering in large crowds.
At the moment, you can still go to a restaurant, a club, or a coffee shop if you wish to—but mandatory occupancy restrictions will likely force many to temporarily close and/or adapt the way they do business. Most businesses are putting diligent extra measures into effect to help prevent spread of the virus. But for now, please, don’t ignore the seriousness of this situation. You know the drill: wash your hands like you’re a surgeon, clamp your elbow over your mouth when you cough or sneeze, and DON’T go out if you are even the slightest bit ill.
We want you to think, and to think HARD, about what these small businesses (not just in our district but throughout our city) mean to our community. Think about what they mean to you. To put it bluntly, some of these businesses will need your support simply to survive this unprecedented event.
These are the things you can do to help these businesses, to help Regina, and to help yourself:
Start your holiday shopping now and BUY GIFT CARDS
Buy merchandise that is available online from local businesses
Check social media or call local businesses to find out what they are doing in regards to delivery, pickup, hours of operation, etc.
Please start supporting our local businesses today. The people of Saskatchewan are the strongest in all of Canada, and that strength is rooted in our love and support of each other.
One last thing—BE KIND. We are all in this together.
