Community Support Program
Regina's Community Support Program (CSP) is coming to the Warehouse District in mid-April, 2022. The Community Support Program is an outreach team that provides safety and well-being support, along with non-emergent crisis intervention, to individuals in the downtown and warehouse districts.
Through a daily on-foot presence, the CSP team will travel in pairs and connect with individuals experiencing homelessness, impacted by mental health, trauma, addictions and a variety of other social and economic barriers which may position them at higher risk of harm. The CSP team will provide support through harm reduction and street outreach.
The CSP hopes to enhance the safety of all community members who access city spaces and believes prevention and intervention through a trauma informed and culturally sensitive lens are paramount. They will focus on building strong relationships with community-based organizations, businesses and community members at large, while ensuring priority individuals are connected to the services and assistance they may require.
Some key objectives of the CSP are to:
respond to a variety of non-emergent safety and security matters and proactively prevent them from becoming emergent;
facilitate positive partnerships with local businesses, citizens, and community agencies in order to identify and address potential issues, trends and areas of concern;
build trusting relationships with vulnerable community members and assist them in addressing their needs;
work with service providers to provide supports to people in need and address root causes of safety and security issues;
identify gaps in services;
and act as a triage team in hopes of avoiding the unnecessary use of RPS resources for non-emergent issues.
Support from the CSP will be seen in many forms including, but certainly not limited to:
making phone calls,
finding services,
escorting people to services and helping fill out paperwork,
assisting businesses with safety and prevention strategies,
providing community service referrals and service navigation assistance,
administering first aid,
providing safety and wellness checks,
participating in neighbourhood cleanups,
and providing access to necessities like food, water and hygiene supplies.
Ongoing partnerships and community collaborations will continue to enhance our programs and services and contribute to the continuum of service and care needed to ensure appropriate support is provided when needed.
